(CMR) According to the latest information from Trinidad and Tobago's Elections and Boundaries Commission the results from the island's general election are still being calculated.
However, the People’s National Movement (PNM) led by Dr. Keith Rowley declared victory noting that they had won 22 seats over the United National Congress’ (UNC) 19 seats.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic only a small gathering of supporters celebrated at Balisier House, where Rowley used the occasion to thank supporters along with his wife.
He also thanked his supporters for adhering to social distancing measures.
Rowley told supporters that under his leadership he would do his best to lead the country out of the perilous times it was now in due to the pandemic.
Kamla Persad-Bissessar , the UNC leader, has said that she is not yet ready to concede indicating that she intended to petition for a recount in at least three constituencies.
