(CMR) Many residents remain without electricity as Caribbean Utilities Company continues to make the necessary repairs to bring the grid completely back on. As of 10:40 p.m. there are pockets of area that remain without power, largely in the West Bay area.

However, shortly before midnight on Wednesday night CMR reports from West Bay residents is that it was beginning to slowly be reported in areas such as Mount Pleasant. The excitement was short-lived as it went out shortly after that.

CUC noted earlier in the evening that approximately half of our customers had their power restored and 20 of 25 feeders restored. power line feeders are back on. However, the areas without power are Bodden Town, parts of Prospect, parts of Seven Mile Beach and West Bay. There are also small isolated areas experiencing outages, CUC is aware of these outages and repair efforts are ongoing.

The crews are continuing to work on the restoration of power throughout the night and into tomorrow until all customers have power. CUC thanks you for your patience and understanding as they work to restore electricity to all customers after the damage caused by Tropical Storm Grace.

Customers are also encouraged to monitor the outage map on the website www.cuc-cayman.com. They continued to encourage motorists CUC would like to remind motorists to be cautious on the roads, as our crews will be working on poles across the island.

The government has also announced that Government Offices in Grand Cayman will remain closed on the morning of Thursday 19th August and will reopen at 1:00 pm. Due to widespread disruptions and emergency storm operations over the past 48 hours, some departments may offer reduced services.

Any Civil Servant, offering non-essential services, who need to address personal circumstances impacting their work, are requested to contact their manager as early as possible ahead of tomorrow’s 1:00 pm opening. Civil Servants who provide essential/emergency services are required to attend work as scheduled unless directed otherwise by their Head of Department.

Despite the drama, people had an opportunity to show a bit of humor about the situation:
