(CMR) The Cayman Islands on Friday (May 1) recorded one new confirmed case of the deadly coronavirus, COVID-19. The latest case brings the total number of confirmed cases on the island to 74.
Chief Medical Officer (CMO), John Lee said that the latest confirmed case was acquired in the community and used the occasion to encourage residents to continue to practice physical distancing measures as well as to wear a mask.
“We have a positive result to report today, and this positive result is one that's been acquired in the community, ” said the CMO.
“I think it is really important to remember that this can pop up anywhere; these are ordinary people going about their everyday business and they just do not know how they've become positive,” added the CMO.
According to Lee, he has seen a lot of sportspeople together, and while he understands the desire to be together, measures such as physical distancing are aimed at protecting the entire community.
Lee further said there are 391 negative results, which now brings the total number of tests conducted across all three islands to 1,927.
To date, there 32 symptomatic cases, 28 asymptomatic cases, 3 admitted and 10 have recovered.
Lee also used the occasion to provide an update on testing on the Sister Islands.
He said 200 tests have been done on Little Cayman and in Cayman Brac 245 tests have been done.
