BREAKING: PPM loses two former ministers as party members

(CMR) The political landscape in the Cayman Islands has just gotten very interesting with the resignation of both Osbourne Bodden and Wayne Panton as members of the People's Progressive Movement (PPM) earlier today.

Exclusive sources informed CMR yesterday that the resignation of Panton was imminent. Whilst Panton has not made any public statements he was recently seen at the #sheissupported peaceful protest rally last week. The rally was held to show solidarity for women who experience gender-based violence. Speaking off-camera at that event, Panton said that he cannot support anyone thinking that violence is acceptable in our community and he was there to show 100% support for the cause.

Both were former ministers with the party during its 2013-2017 tenures. However, it appears that many including these two are likely dissatisfied with the direction that the party is currently heading. When contacted Bodden briefly shared that:

“Political expediency has never been my goal. I'm here for my country and its people or it's nothing at all. It's really that simple. I cannot be part of anything just for the sake of power.”

Panton, Bodden and Marco Archer all lost their ministerial sets in the last election in what was seen as quite an upset politically. There is no word on whether or not Archer remains a member of the party.

Given the recent events because of the assault committed by the Speaker of the House, McKeeva Bush many believe that PPM who maintains solidary with the speaker has committed “political suicide” and will be swept out of office in the next general election in 2021.
