(CMR) Belizean Destiny Wagner made history Sunday night, 21 November, by capturing the Miss Earth crown. The pageant, held virtually for the first time, saw Wagner best a field of 88 other delegates from all across the globe.
With Wagner’s historic win, she becomes the first Belizean woman to secure a placement at Miss Earth, the first Belizean woman to place at a Big 4 pageant (Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss International, Miss Earth) since 1979, and the first Belizean to win a Big 4 crown.
Belize’s last placement at any Big 4 international pageant was Sarita Acosta’s placement at Miss Universe in 1979.
“My country has never placed in Miss Earth nor any international crown. I'm overwhelmed with emotions. Words and gratitude are hard to express, but I'm very thankful,” the newly-crowned winner said minutes after her proclamation.
The other three finalists were Miss Earth-Air, Marisa Butler (USA); Miss Earth-Water, Romina Denecken (Chile); and Miss Earth-Fire, Jareerat Petsom (Thailand).
