(CMR) The mother of a two-year-old child who was found dead in Cayman Brac last year has accused the RCIPS of not doing enough in investigating the incident, adding she believed her daughter was murdered.
Alissady Azalea Powell's body was found over 1 mile from her home after she was reported missing by her mom last July.
“I'm really disappointed and frustrated with the lack of effort on behalf of the RCIPS,” Yvane Dixon-Powell said in a video on social media.
“I am overwhelmed with the fact that I recently have a Zoom call with them stating pretty much that they exhausted their resources. I gave them my word I would assist them in any way possible. This is my child; I want justice for her, and I am not going to stop until I get it,” the mother stated.
She said she has spent thousands to hire private investigators who have given her more results than the police, who have said they have exhausted their resources. She said the private investigator's findings have been shared with the police; however, the police have questioned the credibility of these persons.
“My daughter did not drown…I think it's quite evident my daughter did not walk 1.6 miles in what would have been considered a thunderstorm that morning,” Powell added.
“Nobody can understand how I feel right now with having no answers whatsoever,” She said, adding that many persons have spoken ill about her as a mother since the incident.
“What RCIPS needs to tell you all was I was attacked two weeks prior to my daughter's death and was threatened by someone well known to me and someone who had access to my house,” she added.
She said she was hospitalized, and the person responsible is before the court facing numerous charges. Based on her post, the mother believes both incidents could be linked.
“I'm done being humble; I'm done being nice. I have stuck my face in the Bible for the last eight months, praying and keeping the faith, and I am only human, so at some point, I will start to lose faith. I will reiterate this again. My daughter will get justice,” she said.
CMR has reached out to the RCIPS regarding an update on investigations; however, a response was not received at the time of publishing.
