(CMR) A witness in the murder trial of Roger Deward Bush (47), who reportedly killed his son Shaquille Bush (24) in 2019, said she did not provide the RCIPS with information for more than a year because a police officer threatened her.
Shaquille Bush was gunned down in the evening hours of Wednesday, 12 November 2019, on Daisy Lane in West Bay. Roger Bush, who had several altercations with his son, was arrested for the murder in 2019 but was released shortly after due to a lack of evidence. He was charged last year after the police got new evidence against him.
A judge-only trial into the murder began on Monday, 13 June, in the Grand Court, where Nikkieta Ebanks (33), who was in a relationship with the defendant, took the stand. Ebanks also has a child with Bush. The court heard that it was Roger Bush's obsession that the child was not his but his son's, which led him to kill his son.
Ebanks told the court that Bush told her he had killed Shaquille, but she did not give police information initially after an auxiliary police officer visited her as she waited in a cell to talk to detectives. The officer has since been arrested for perverting the court of justice.
Ebanks said, “After that, I did not trust anyone in the police.”
She left the island with her child after Shaquille's funeral in 2019 but was forced to return after running out of money. She said she went to the police as Bush continued to threaten her. She also told the court that he usually had a gun.
The trial continues.
