(CMR) Melantha Wright the Financial Controller for the Cayman Islands Airports Authority (CIAA) appeared in court Monday for sentencing for a assault that occurred on 8 December 2017.
She was found guilty of common assault after Magistrate Voldats heard the facts in court. It was alleged that she arrived at the residence of a male acquaintance and assaulted another female that was present at his home at the time. Apparently she assaulted the victim with a shovel to her lower back; but her lawyer claimed in court she was attempting to hit a table and not the victim.
Magistrate found the victim's impact statement to be compelling and instructed her to stay clear of the victim. The victim had to go to the hospital for treatment. She sustained pain, stiffness and bruises for weeks from the shovel assault.
No conviction was recorded on her record but she has been instructed to pay the victim's $309 medical bill. She also has been instructed to stay at least 15 feet away from the victim and have no contact with her including any social media comments. For the next year should she not follow these stipulations she will be forced to pay the court $950.00.
Wright recently received a five-year long-service award from the CIAA.
