(CMR) Jayson Joel Brown (28) was sentenced to 20 months imprisonment with 10 months to be served immediately. Brown was sent immediately to jail to begin servicing his sentence. He was captured on video in 2021 assaulting a female.
Chief Magistrate Foldats dealt with the matter.
Ten of the 20 months will be suspended for two years for the offense of assault ABH which was count one. Count two and three were both for reckless and negligent actions. Count two he admitted pulling her hair and dragging her whilst driving the vehicle.
He had previously denied dragging her with his vehicle but finally made the admission on Friday in open court. He received 10 months concurrent for that offense.
Count three was in relation to driving the vehicle at another man and he received four months concurrent for that as well.
One month concurrent was received for count four which is damage to property for the destruction of the victim's mobile phone. He was also instructed via a compensation order to pay $905 for a phone that was destroyed during the incident. He has been given 12 months after his release from prison to make the required payment or face 90 days in default.
Brown carried out a vicious attack on a woman known to him and several other persons. He was alleged to have dragged her using his vehicle which he denied. Despite his denials, the court found his offenses warranted jail time.
