(CMR) According to the most recent Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) published by transparency.org, Haiti is the most corrupt country in the Caribbean. Haiti is followed by the Dominican Republic, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, and Jamaica.
The Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), according to transparency.org, is the “most widely-used global corruption ranking in the world. It measures how corrupt each country's public sector is perceived to be, according to experts and business people.”
According to transparency.org, two years into the devastating pandemic, corruption level remains at a standstill worldwide. The website also revealed that 131 countries had made no significant progress against corruption over the last decade despite commitment on paper. This year, 27 countries are at a historic low in their CPI score.
Haiti ranked 164 out of 180 countries with a score of 20 out of 100. The Dominican Republic ranked 128th
with a score of 30, Guyana 87th with a score of 39, Trinidad ranked 82nd with a score of 41, and Jamaica ranked 70 with a score of 44.
Barbados is ranked the least corrupt country in the Caribbean, ranking 29th out of 180 countries.
