(CMR) Two persons on Royal Caribbean's Celebrity Millennium ship, which had all adult passengers and crew vaccinated, have tested positive for COVID-19. Only minors on the ship were not vaccinated.
The guests who were sharing a room are asymptomatic and are isolating in their stateroom onboard the ship. The positive results were revealed after they had undergone required end-of-cruise testing.
“We are conducting contact tracing, expediting testing for all close contacts, and closely monitoring the situation,” the Royal Caribbean Group said.
Celebrity Cruises was one of the first cruises in North America to start resailing more than a year after the industry was shut down during COVID-19.
Celebrity Millennium had required all passengers and crew to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours and show proof of vaccination prior to embarking from St. Maarten on June 5 for a seven-day cruise visiting Aruba, Barbados, and Curacao.
Only minors who were not able to receive the COVID vaccine were allowed to board without proof of vaccination. Those traveling with children unable to get their shots were mandated to present a negative COVID-19 test.
“This situation demonstrates that our rigorous health and safety protocols work to protect our crew, guests, and the communities we visit,” the company said.
