UPDATE: The man who shot and killed Andrea Lowe-Garwood while she was in church on Sunday is now in police custody. He surrendered to the police in the company of his attorney, Deputy Commissioner of Police Fitz Bailey revealed.
(CMR) A woman who was murdered while she was worshipping at a church in Trelawny, Jamaica on Sunday, was reportedly threatened by members of her late husband's family over a house they shared.
Andrea Lowe-Garwood (51), a credit card manager at the National Comercial Bank, was shot at about 10:30 am by a lone gunman as she indulged in worship at the Agape Christian Fellowship in Falmouth.
The gunman entered the church service disguised as a worshipper and sat behind Lowe-Garwood before he shot her several times. He escaped in a waiting car.
Investigators are now looking into the possibility that her late husband's family may have conspired to kill her following disagreements over how his wealth was shared after his death.
Her husband, Jeffrey Garwood, was killed in a motor vehicle accident last July. His family was allegedly upset that his wife of three years had inherited his possessions and not his children.
They reportedly wanted her to sell the home she shared with her husband and share the money among his children, whom he fathered with another woman.
Her stepson was one of three persons arrested in relation to her killing on Sunday; however, police are still trying to apprehend the actual shooter.
There are also allegations that the woman had asked her husband's children to leave their home following his death.
Persons expressing their views on social media pointed to the need for people, especially those in blended families, to make wills to prevent disagreements when they die.
Others openly condemned the murder, stating that killing her did not solve the issue despite what had occurred.
