On Saturday, the Boeing 737 passenger plane flying from Jakarta, Indonesia, crashed after losing contact with air traffic controllers shortly after takeoff.
The Sriwijaya Air passenger jet, which had 62 passengers, including 10 children, is said to have plunged 10,000 feet into the sea.
The plane lost more than 10,000 feet of altitude in less than a minute, about four minutes after it left Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.
The Indonesia Navy was to start searching on Saturday based on the last known coordinates of the plane.
A rescue agency has since confirmed finding suspected debris from the plane.
Airport authorities reportedly lost contact with the plane, Sriwijaya Air Flight 182, at approximately 2:40 p.m. local time.
The plane, a 26-year-old Boeing 737-500, was bound for the city of Pontianak on Indonesia's Borneo island. It was carrying 56 passengers and six crew members.
