(CMR) A St Lucian prison inmate was taken to hospital after he was bitten by a snake on Thursday (December 10).
Reports are that the inmate was working on the prison farm when he was bitten by a fer-de-lance snake, which is known to be venomous.
He was transported to the hospital where he is receiving treatment.
The Bordelais Correctional Facility was constructed on an area that was previously the habitat of the island's indigenous snakes.
Director at the Prison at BCF Hilary Herman said that since opening in 2003, there have been many fictitious reports about snakes biting inmates.
