(CMR) The Verzuz battle between Ashanti and Keyshia Cole was postponed after one of the singers tested positive for COVID-19.
Ashanti took to Instagram on Saturday (December 12) to share that she had tested positive for the virus, that has killed thousands in the United States.
“Hey y’all I can’t believe I’m saying this but I tested positive for COVID-19,” the singer wrote. “I’m ok and not in any pain. I’m actually down to do the Verzuz from my house… we’re trying to figure it all out,” said Ashanti on Instagram.
Following Ashanti's revelation, Verzuz shared an update on the highly anticipated event, noting that they had decided to postpone the battle.
“Unfortunately, we have to postpone tonight’s @Ashanti vs @KeyshiaCole #VERZUZ. Ashanti tested positive for COVID-19 beforehand, and we cannot put anyone at risk in the process,” said the event organizers.
“First time this has struck us so close to showtime. We apologize to our incredible audience!
Get well soon, Ashanti. Wear a mask, stay inside, and take COVID-19 seriously. It’s truly affecting our community,” they added .
Fans will now have to wait until Jan. 9, 2021 to see the two songstresses battle it out on the Verzuz stage.
Verzuz is a webcast virtual battle which sees two acts in the entertainment industry face-off against each other, while highlighting their discographies in three-hour long session,
The virtual event created by Timbaland and Swizz Beatz during the pandemic, has become a hit among music lovers, as many live shows have hit a snag due to the coronavirus outbreak globally.
