Two men were arrested and one man was deported back to his native Jamaica, following anti-crime operations in the eastern districts.
According to the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS), the arrests and the deportation of the Jamaican national comes on the heels of success they have been making in the area as a result of a recently launched anti-crime operation.
The RCIPS report that around 5:00 am on Sunday they conducted a search of a residence on Northward Road which resulted in a 33-year-old- Jamaican man being nabbed on immigration-related offense.
The 33-year-old was on Monday deported to Jamaica.
A second operation conducted on Friday was said to have found drug utensils among other devices at a house on Manse Road in Bodden Town.
A 35-year-old man was taken into custody and later released on police bail in connection with the incident.
A 47-year-old-man of George Town was also arrested in the operations after officers conducted a search of his person and his vehicle that was nearby.
The George Town man was found with a machete and subsequently arrested.
Officers in the Eastern Districts began stepping up their efforts to target illegal activities, following from a community meeting in the area, which specifically pointed to gambling and the use of drugs, as significant factors contributing to crime.
“We will continue operations like these to target low-level criminal activity that can be a nuisance for law-abiding residents and also lead to more dangerous behavior,” said Winsome Prendergast, Area Commander for the Eastern Districts.
“Drug and gambling activities are just the first of the many priority areas we will be concentrating on in order to address concerns raised by our communities in Bodden Town, East End, and North Side,” he added.
