(CMR) Police recovered several rounds of ammunition and a part from a firearm along with a quantity of cash and suspected hard drugs during a traffic stop on Friday, 8 March, in George Town.
The lone occupant of the vehicle, a 26-year-old man from George Town, was subsequently arrested on Suspicion of Possession of an Unlicensed Firearm and possession of a quantity of suspected cocaine.
According to the RCIPS, on Friday, police carried out a series of operations in the George Town District. Shortly after 1:00 PM, during one of these operations, officers had cause to stop a vehicle traveling on Shedden Road. The officers searched the driver and the vehicle.
During a search, the man attempted to escape but was apprehended by officers. Officers located the rounds of ammunition and a component part from a firearm, along with a quantity of cash and suspected hard drugs.
Following his arrest, officers searched the man’s residence near Patricks Island. He remains in custody pending further investigations.
This operation forms part of the RCIPS’ ongoing efforts to target individuals involved in gun and gang violence in the Cayman Islands.
