(CMR) The second complainant in the case of indecent assault against McKeeva Bush told the court on Friday that while she thought what the former Speaker did to her was inappropriate, she did not think his actions amounted to a crime.
Bush is on trial for two counts of indecent assault arising from an incident at a tourism conference in 2022, where he allegedly inappropriately touched two women at the event.
The second complainant who took the witness stand on Friday was allegedly bitten on the hand and given a ‘hickey' by Bush. However, the woman who works for the Cayman Islands Government, despite considering Bush's behavior “odd and creepy,” said she did not want to pursue a complaint against Bush. She said she brought the matter to her bosses because she was more concerned about how is actions could affect the government.
She, however, admitted that her account of the incident to the police was accurate. While the defense suggested the woman was forced to pursue the matter, the prosecution said she was not forced, nor was she summoned; she willingly gave a statement and agreed to testify in court.
The woman revealed she had a long-standing relationship with Bush and thought his actions were a result of being drunk and that he did not intend to cause her harm.
The prosecution, however, said while the woman does not think Bush's actions amounted to a crime, this does not mean a crime was not committed. The trial will continue next week.
