(CMR) Judith Douglas, who pleaded guilty to 32 counts of obtaining property by deception in a rent scam, has a gambling problem, which she supports with money gained from scamming, it was revealed during her sentence hearing on Wednesday.
Douglas was arrested last year after CMR posted about her numerous schemes. She has been accused of taking deposits from persons interested in renting a property located at 55 Diaz Lane without actually following through.
When she appeared in court last August, Douglas, who was charged with 36 counts of obtaining property by deception, pleaded guilty to 32 counts, including partial pleas.
Jonathan Hughs, Douglas's attorney, spoke about her poor upbringing during the hearing on Wednesday. The court heard that a man who sexually abused Douglas as a child introduced her to gambling
Douglas is to return to court on 28 February for sentencing.
