(CMR) Amid travel advisories issued for Jamaica and the Bahamas, due to crime in these countries, one United States newspaper has named the Cayman Islands among destinations safe to visit.
The Oklahoman said that while the United States government is urging residents to reconsider traveling to Jamaica, which is a popular spring break destination, there are other options for those wanting to travel to the Caribbean.
In a Level 3 Advisory issued on 23 January, the Department of State urged citizens to reconsider travel to Jamaica due to crime and medical services.
According to the advisory, violent crimes, such as home invasions, armed robberies, sexual assaults, and homicides, are common in Jamaica, with sexual assaults occurring frequently, including at all-inclusive resorts.
A Level 2 advisory issued for the Bahamas stated that violent crimes, such as burglaries, armed robberies, and sexual assaults, occur in both tourist and non-tourist areas. US citizens are urged to be vigilant when staying at short-term vacation rental properties where private security companies do not have a presence, the advisory continued.
