(CMR) Police have confirmed that two Jamaicans arrived illegally by boat in the Cayman Islands on Thursday, 18 January. However, nothing illegal was found during a search conducted of the area where they landed.
Reports are that shortly after 7 a.m., the 9-1-1 Communications Centre dispatched officers to a report that a vessel carrying two men had landed on the shore off Bodden Town Road in the Breakers area. Officers attended the location and detained the two men, ages 33 and 40, who appeared to be in good health.
Officers from the Cayman Islands Coast Guard and Cayman Islands Customs and Border Control also attended the scene. The vessel was recovered by CICG officers, while the men were handed over to CBC, who are carrying out the investigation into the circumstances of their arrival. The men have been arrested by CBC on suspicion of illegal landing and remain in custody.
An extensive search of the surrounding area was carried out by the RCIPS Air Operations Unit; however, nothing illegal was found.
