(CMR) The National Children’s Voluntary Organisation (NCVO) said items seen in the trash outside its location were not unopened donated items but items that were damaged or unusable.
CMR reached out to the NCVO after a member of the public expressed concerns that donated items were thrown in the garbage at the NCVO.
In response, the NCVO said, “Over the Christmas break, we were lucky enough to receive a vast amount of donations, from furniture to clothing and electrical goods. Our staff and tireless volunteers took the time to individually go through the many bags to separate items that were suitable to sell or donate within our community.”
“Due to the high number of donations, there was a percentage that were soiled, torn, broken or simply unusable and these items were placed in the garbage,” the NCVO stated.
The organization explained that with some bad weather over the break, unfortunately, some items were damaged through the rain. These items were also placed in the garbage.
“We would never throw away any donations that we at the NCVO could use, sell, or give to the community, and we are so grateful for the love and assistance we receive from the public to continue to provide the services we offer, including our 24/7 residential foster care home and our preschool and nursery,” NCVO further stated.
The organization expressed gratitude to the public for their continued support and for choosing NCVO as their thrift shop of choice.
