UPDATE: A 27-year-old man from East End was arrested on Saturday, 9 December, on suspicion of murder in relation to the fatal shooting of Sven Brett Connor on Thursday, 7 December. He remains in custody as investigations continue.
(CMR) Sven Connor (42), a man who has run afoul of the law on several occasions, was reportedly gunned down in East End Thursday evening, 7 December.
There are unconfirmed reports that this may have been a reprisal killing. CMR will provide more information on the killing as it becomes available.
In October, Connor was arrested after police said he was wanted in relation to a serious assault. Following his arrest, he was held in custody due to a breach of a court order.
In 2011, Sven Connor was sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty to a double arson attack.
He is the brother of Shane Edward Connor who was been found guilty of his involvement in a June 2017 Patrick Island home invasion.
Reports from the RCIPS are that just before 10 PM yesterday, 7 December, police and other emergency services were dispatched by the 9-1-1 Communication Centre to a report of shots fired in the district of East End. It was reported that the shots were being fired at a residence located off Sea View Road.
Firearm and other uniform officers attended the location and entered the residence. A man was found unresponsive inside the residence and had what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds. A doctor attended the scene, where he pronounced the victim deceased.
A crime scene has been established at the residence and searches of the area were carried out; however, no suspects were located at the time. Additional daylight searches and examinations are being carried out today, 8 December, and police are advising persons to respect the cordon and stay clear of the scene while officers are carrying out their investigations.
The incident is being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Department and detectives are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information about the incident to urgently come forward. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Major Incident Room at 649-2930.
“We had previously increased our presence across the Cayman Islands in light of the holiday period, including the district of East End. Last night’s incident will be met with a commensurate presence to ensure that the community can go about their daily lives without fear,” said Chief Superintendent Brad Ebanks.
“Our officers are working diligently to find who is responsible in this matter. We encourage the community to work with us in support of bringing the perpetrators to justice and ensuring the safety of the public,” he added.
