(CMR) Caymanians who have completed their compulsory education and wish to gain skills in the dynamic field of Technical, Vocational, Education, and Training (TVET) will now have the opportunity to get a grant from the Ministry of Education (MoE).
The Ministry has introduced a Local TVET Grant in a groundbreaking initiative designed to equip Caymanians with TVET skills.
Valued at up to CI $15,000.00 per year, the Local TVET Grant covers tuition fees, course materials, and required equipment for eligible courses lasting 18 months or less, offered by registered local private institutions.
“This grant represents our Government's unwavering commitment to invest in TVET programs and increase awareness of their significance,” said Hon Juliana O’Connor-Connolly, Minister for Education.
“It ensures that Caymanians have equal opportunities to access high-quality TVET courses, opening doors to fulfilling careers and enhancing their contributions to our society,” she added.
To apply for the Local TVET Grant, prospective learners can visit the Scholarship Secretariat Unit’s website. Applicants are required to upload copies of the following documents along with their applications:
-Recent photo ID
-Birth certificate
-Proof of Caymanian citizenship
-Acceptance letter from a registered TVET institution
-Character reference
The administration of the grant will be overseen by a committee appointed by the MoE, and decisions regarding grant allocation will be announced quarterly.
“Unlike many other scholarship programs, the TVET Grant supports education outside the traditional academic calendar by facilitating applications throughout the year,” noted Lyneth Monteith, Acting Chief Officer.
“This demonstrates that we [the Ministry] acknowledge the diversity of learning pathways and the dynamic nature of the job market. We encourage individuals to seize this incredible opportunity to unlock their full potential and pursue rewarding careers in TVET fields,” Monteith.
