(CMR) Noted Cayman Brac historian and businessman D. Burnard Tibbetts passed away on August 13, 2023.
Tibbetts was dedicated to the development of the Cayman Islands and was awarded the M.B.E. by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, becoming the first Caymanian to be pinned by Her Majesty on Cayman soil.
In addition to his numerous professional accomplishments and efforts to benefit the Cayman Islands, he was devoted to preserving the history of the Cayman Islands. He published several works on Cayman’s past, including “The Way They Lived Back Then,” his “Written Treasure” book series, and numerous short stories.
The brother of the late politician Capt. Keith Tibbetts and the late businessman Linton Tibbetts, Burnard was married to his wife Vernice for over 65 years and had four sons: James, Paul, Jonathan, and Matthew.
A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held this Saturday, September 2, at Stake Bay Baptist Church in Cayman Brac at 3 p.m.
