(CMR) Dr. Celine Manoosingh, who was appointed as special advisor to Premier Wayne Panton in 2021, has passed.
Dr. Manoosingh was raised in the Cayman Islands and educated in the public school system before going to study abroad.
Georgia Southern University, where she worked, announced her death on 25 August. The Caymanian was an associate professor of Civil Engineering & Construction at Georgia Southern University and the chair of the College of Engineering and Computing Inclusive Excellence and Diversity Council.
As Special Advisor to the Premier, Dr. Manoosingh provided advice in key areas, supported capacity building, reviewed and synergized various policies, and assisted with projects as assigned by the Premier.
Her research expertise was related to energy efficiency and optimization, environmental life cycle assessment, and green infrastructure. Dr. Manoosingh secured more than $400,000 worth of research funding from the Department of Energy, Georgia Department of Transportation, Southern Company, and the Engineering Information Foundation.
Dr. Manoosingh also served as a representative on the National Science Foundation in Washington, D.C., which focuses on resilience, renewable energy, sustainable smart cities, and green infrastructure.
