(CMR) The Cayman Islands National Weather Service said Tropical Storm Bret poses no immediate threat to the Cayman Islands at this time.
Tropical Storm Bret, at 4 a.m., was located 12.8N 51.4W or about 645 miles east of the Windward Islands. Tropical Storm Bret is moving towards the west at about 16 mph with maximum sustained winds of 60 mph.
Bret strengthened slightly overnight and is forecast to reach the Lesser Antilles on Thursday morning as a strong tropical storm.
Tropical storm watches are in effect Wednesday for Barbados, Dominica, Martinique and St. Lucia, meaning tropical storm conditions are possible there within the next 48 hours.
“Interests elsewhere in the Lesser Antilles should monitor the progress of Bret. Additional watches or warnings will likely be required for these islands today,” the National Hurricane Center said.
Meantime, the Cayman Islands National Weather Service said isolated showers with moderate winds and seas are expected across the Cayman Islands over the next 24 hours in association with a ridge of high pressure over the Caribbean. Radar images show scattered showers west of Grand Cayman moving towards the northwest.
