(CMR) Jamaica newspaper company Jamaica Observer is investigating suspicious activities surrounding its social media pages after its Twitter account was apparently hacked.
Several posts were made on the page Sunday, 18 June, that were outside what the media house usually posts. Some of the posts were shared from other pages, while one appeared to be posted directly from the Jamaica Observer page.
In a statement on their website, the Observer wrote: “The Jamaica Observer has detected suspicious activities on our social media platforms. Due to that, we have decided to suspend our social media postings as a security precaution until a thorough investigation is completed.”
The hacking of major networks in Jamaica has been a concern recently after the country's main surveillance system JamaicaEye was hacked.
