(CMR) Minister of Health Sabrina Turner has announced that the Government has purchased the former Mariners Cove property to build a new wellness park.
The Minister made the announcement at the recent 6th Annual Youth Mental Health Symposium put on by the Alex Panton Foundation at the Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman. She stated:
“I am very pleased to announce the recent acquisition of property registered as Lot 25B, Parcel A, for the purpose of the establishment of a new wellness community park.”
The Mariners Cove property has been in disrepair for years following the destruction of the former resort by Hurricane Ivan in 2004. Plans to develop the property into a wellness resort did not materialize. Now the Minister said the Government was able to acquire the property, which will become the Prospect Community Wellness Park.
The 6th Annual Youth Mental Health Symposium was held under the theme “Let's talk trauma.” Several speakers spoke on the issue of childhood trauma at the event.
In expressing its gratitude to participants in the symposium, the Alex Panton Foundation said, “Through discussing important and difficult topics such as trauma, addressing the stigma of mental illness, and confronting difficult truths together, we can make a difference and help to build a more emotionally intelligent, resilient youth while healing our community.”
