(CMR) There are currently ten suspected cases of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus in the Cayman Islands. Medical Officer of Health Dr. Samuel Williams-Rodriquez said at a press conference on Thursday.
Dr. Rodriquez also said that Cayman’s first confirmed case of the Omicron variant was a person who traveled from the United States. The person tested positive on their second day on island and had traveled with a negative PCR test taken 72 hours before travel. The person was also asymptomatic.
This person and everyone in their household have been placed in isolation.
Additionally, the majority of the ten suspected cases are from the US; however, there is one suspected case from the UK, one from Canada, and one from Mexico. There is also one local suspected case of a person in a household with a traveler.
