(CMR) A 71-year-old has recently passed away having been found unresponsive at home by a family member. The unvaccinated patient was COVID-19 positive, therefore the death certificate lists COVID-19 as a contributory factor, although the patient had multiple comorbidities.
CMR understand he was on dialysis and had been sick for quite some time.
At 8 a.m. on Monday, 29 November Chief Medical Officer Dr. John Lee reported that 2,069 PCR tests had been conducted since 8 a.m. on Friday, 25 November. The Public Health Department reported 336 positive results from these tests, with one in a traveler and 335 coming from the community.
These results brought the number of active cases of COVID-19 in the Cayman Islands to 4,080 as of 8 a.m. on Monday, 29 November. The total number of cases recorded since the start of the pandemic stood at 7,074 at the same time.
Up to that point, 4,664 people in the Cayman Islands were in isolation either in Government isolation facilities or at home. There were 22 COVID-19 patients hospitalized in the Cayman Islands at 8 a.m. on Monday, 29 November.
The Public Health Department also confirmed that up to 8 a.m. on Monday, 29 November there had been 1,854 total positive lateral flow tests since the introduction of the lateral flow test program in the Cayman Islands, which are included in the total positive numbers given above.
As of 8 a.m. on Monday, 29 November, Faith Hospital confirmed there were 18 active cases in the Sister Islands, with three identified since Friday, 26 November. To date, there had been 119 total cases recorded in the Sister Islands, with 101 having recovered. Out of the total number of cases in the Sister Islands, 61 were fully vaccinated, six were partially vaccinated, and 52 were unvaccinated.
Up to 8 a.m. on Monday, 29 November there had been 124,246 COVID-19 vaccinations given in total in the Cayman Islands. Of these, 58,057 people (82% of 71,106) had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Meanwhile 56,018 individuals (79%) had completed the two-dose course.
Additionally, 10,615 people (representing 15% of the total population) had received a third or booster dose up to that point.
