(CMR) Kevin Morales, Editor-in-Chief at Compass Media has been let go by the organization exclusive CMR sources have shared. Sources indicate that when staff arrived to work on Wednesday morning it was apparent he was no longer with the company. With no prior notice of his departure, many were left curious what transpired. However, later that day an internal email was circulated informing staff of his departure.
The Compass continues to trim the fat from its organization with many wondering what Morales did for an alleged salary of some $100,000 per annum. They recently released their publisher, Kathleen Capetta as well. Many are anxious to hear who she will be replaced with as the company promises that the person will be a Caymanian.
Under new ownership, the Compass has terminated a number of employees in various departments leaving many to wonder who will be next to be let go from the organization. Sources close to the decision-makers have indicated that several journalists should be concerned about their future prospects with Cayman Compass. Employees have also been cut from the radio staff which was acquired as part of the Hurley's Media acquisition.
Morales has been with the organization since September 2019. He was formally news director for Cayman 27 before they shut down. At the time the Compass took on several employees from the now-defunct TV station. Morales, who recently obtained his permanent residency status arrived from Wisconsin back in June 2010. During his time in Cayman, he acquired a reputation for always being willing to do the work of management especially as it related to terminations. His unplanned departure has left him perturbed according to sources in the organization.
In terms of Morales's next move, CMR has reliably been informed that he has applied to Invest Cayman, Cayman Islands Government investment promotion agency.
