(CMR) Travel Time Cayman continues to come under intense scrutiny after they erroneously informed a man that that he was free to leave quarantine; only to be recalled because they made a mistake with his COVID test.
The elderly George Town Caymanian gentleman was accidentally released from quarantine after he travelled to Miami for heart surgery recently and completed his mandatory quarantine period. He was subsequently informed that his exit PCR test was negative and he was free to resume his normal life.
He then visited his son, daughter-in-law and great grandson before being called back and told that he was in fact positive and should return to this residence with his helper. This resulted in his extended family now being placed in isolation as well and will have to now quarantine for 14 days.
After CMR contacted them for comment they released the following brief statement:
A COVID-19 positive traveller at the end of their quarantine period on September 19th 2021 was inadvertently released from quarantine, however, was contacted immediately and returned to isolation.
“There is no public concern in this case as the positive traveller and their contacts were immediately advised and isolated,” Dr Samuel Williams-Rodriguez, Medical Officer of Health confirmed.
Travel Cayman has made a number of errors and in recent time has been on the radar of many in community who wonder if they could be part of the issue with the ongoing community spread of the COVID-19 cases. Many local residents have lost confidence in their ability to effectively carry out their mandate.
In addition to that, some people who have gone through the quarantine process have been highly critical of Travel Cayman with one taking to social media to share their harrowing experiences.
