(CMR) The Cayman Islands PACT government updated the business community this afternoon during the Chamber of Commerce Legislative Luncheon of the phased re-opening plan which begins in earnest in August. Premier The Honourable Wayne Panton unveiled the five phases of his government's re-opening plan to a full audience at the Kimpton SeaFire.
He explained that we are currently in Phase 1 and will transition to Phase 2 on August 9. Phase 2 will allow for the easing of vaccinated travelers by the removal of the GPS tracking.
Phase 3 is slated for September 9 with a limited introduction of tourism. This phase begins during the slow season and would not coincide with when schools are set to re-open. There will be no cruise tourism allowed until January 2022.
Phase 4 is set for October 14 and will see a reduction of quarantine restrictions for all verified vaccinated travelers. Unvaccinated travelers will have to apply on Travel Cayman with vaccinated travelers having to make a declaration of travel along with a declaration certificate being issued.
Phase 5: Would allow unvaccinated children under 12 to not be required to quarantine. However, but PCR testing will be required for children older than five prior to them being able to return to school.
By January 27, 2022, the country aims to be fully re-opened as it invites cruise tourism back. All plans are subject to assessments and adjustment based on real-time data including any community transfer clusters of two or more that are not connected.
On Sunday, July 11 the Cayman Islands will be celebrating one year since the last community transmission case. The premier also reminded the audience of the dangers of getting this all wrong and used BVI as an example. They recently went from having near-zero transmission to almost 400 cases in one week. He stressed that no country has gone through a re-opening that did not require some reintroduction of COVID-19 control measures.
