(CMR) A tropical wave located about midway between the west coast of Africa and the Windward Islands is tracking towards the Caribbean Sea. The tropical system is producing a large area of showers and thunderstorms that is showing signs of organization as it approaches the western Caribbean, edging closer to the Cayman Islands.
“Environmental conditions appear generally favorable for development, and a tropical depression is likely to form during the next few days while the system moves west-northwestward at about 20 mph. Interests in the Windward and Leeward Islands should closely monitor this system as it will likely be moving through that region on Friday,” according to the National Hurricane Center Miami FL.
Some forecast models show the tropical system intensifying to a category 2 hurricane by the weekend.
While it is too early to know if the Cayman Islands will have an impact, the system should be closely monitored. Now is the time to finalize your disaster plan and have all hurricane supplies purchased and secured. It's also important to read the CaymanPrepared What's Your Plan? guide.
Grocery stores and gas stations are always very busy and often run out of certain supplies when a storm approaches, so preparing now will save you time and frustration.
