(CMR) Several hundred cars purchased from Japan-based suppliers, which were destined for the Cayman Islands, have been stuck at a port in Kingston, Jamaica.
This backlog has resulted in other shipments from these exporters to Cayman being suspended for at least the next two months.
Cayman Islands Port Authority has confirmed the backlog of cars and said it had space to accommodate the vehicle, but that the backlog was due to external forces.
The vehicles usually arrive in Jamaica from Asia and are then shipped to the Cayman Islands. However, COVID-19 protocols in Jamaica have been said to slow down the process.
The backlog could worsen in the coming weeks as there is another shipment of approximately 800 cars en route to Jamaica to be shipped to the Cayman Islands.
