(CMR) A fatality occurred last night in East End in the vicinity of the Blow Holes on the main road shortly after 3:00 a.m. A black jeep ran through the guard rail and off the road and into the water it has been removed. A single Jamaican male driver was recovered from the water by the Fire Service Unit and there was no sign of life at the time.
Traffic is being diverted through High Rock Road and Farm Road.
Police confirmed that just after 2:35 am Saturday morning, 20 March, police and other emergency services were dispatched by the 9-1-1 Communication Centre to a report of a single-vehicle collision that took place along Seaview Road, East End, in the vicinity of the blowholes. It was reported that a jeep wrangler that was travelling westbound ran over the guard railing and into the water.
One occupant of the vehicle was recovered by officers from the Cayman Islands Fire Service and was transported to the Cayman Islands Hospital by ambulance where he was pronounced dead by the attending doctor. No other persons have been recovered from this collision and no other persons reported being involved or injured.
The roadway has been closed to the public since the arrival of emergency services to accommodate on-scene investigations, and remain closed at this time. The public is being asked to avoid this area during their travels. The RCIPS apologies for any inconveniences this road closure may have caused.
