(CMR) A message being circulated in the Cayman Islands that KFC is offering a free “Family Feast Bucket” in an International Women's Day promotion is a scam.
The message, which is being circulated in several countries, has been making rounds over social media for a couple of days. However, KFC has warned it has no such promotion.
According to Tech Pro, the scam is not limited to KFC but other brands such as Adidas, which was prominently seen in the WhatsApp messages offering users free shoes.
Tech Pro warned persons that they will be wasting their time sharing and forwarding the messages and that the messages contain malware.
When a person follows the link, it takes them to the browser and opens a webpage with some gift boxes to be opened. Persons usually fail with the first two boxes, but the third opens with the free gift, a motivation to move forward.
That’s where you will be prompted to share it until the progress bar is fully green, Tech Pro stated.
The last step will lead persons to click the link to reach a dead-end with nothing but hidden malware.
This KFC Women’s Day scam is not new but has been around since 2019 and has continued to spread.
