(CMR) At least six emergency vehicles are on location this evening in Bodden Town after a vehicle caught fire. The car crashed on Condor Road in Bodden Town behind the Bodden Town Primary School around 8:30 p.m. The driver is said to have gotten out unharmed.
The single male occupant was said to be reluctant to leave the vehicle and eyewitnesses shared “he's out but was reluctant to come out of the vehicle. He was drunk and shell shock”.
An eyewitness shared that seems like his tire blow out when he hit a speed bump coming from the back road at a high rate of speed. He's estimated to be have been doing around 80-100 mph according to few other eyewitnesses who were walking their dog when the vehicle passed them on the opposite side of the road.
When the vehicle landed his right tire burst and caused an amount of sharded pieces of tire wire from the tire as well as big pieces that came off and landed next to the wall before the collision with a light pole. The vehicle ended up rubbing the wall and struck the big CUC cement light pole spun around the road facing the opposite direction facing the east.
He was overheard explaining to the police officers that he was coming from East End and decided to come through the back road. He said he wanted to save his car before the police pulled him out. Eyewitnesses heard the crash as it happened and said it sounded like “a big bang”. The flames had the electrical poles glowing.
Firefighters were working hard on the scene to extinguish the blaze.
