(CMR) St Kitts and Nevis has suspended British Airways service to the country until January 16.
The suspension of flights was done in light of the new variants of COVID-19 in South Africa, Nigeria, and England, which scientists have confirmed spread more rapidly.
With minimal to no community spread in St Kitts, authorities are also tightening other quarantine rules.
Chief Medical Officer Dr. Hazel Laws said at a press briefing on Wednesday that returning nationals from the UK will no longer be allowed to vacation in place. Dr. Laws said:
“You will be quarantined and confined to your rooms for the two-week period.”
Everyone who arrived in St. Kitts from the UK has been required to present a negative RT-PCR test upon arrival, has undergone a health screening at the airport, and were asked to remain at their approved hotel and undergo serial testing for the duration of their stay in the Federation.
Since the virus made its way to St. Kitts and Nevis, there have only been 33 confirmed cases, and no deaths, with two active cases.
