Serious concerns raised about police handling of stabbing scene and EMS response time

Police at no control at chaotic crime scene?

(CMR) Some serious questions have been raised relating to both the EMS and the police response to the untimely death of Michael Aaron Bush (22) on Thursday morning at the Strand parking lot off Canal Point Drive on West Bay Road.

Several videos show the police at the scene but clearly not taking control of the incident and preserving what may very well be a murder investigation. In one video shared with CMR over a dozen people can be seen standing in close proximity to the body including one woman who is visibly upset.

There is a police cruiser in the background with its lights flashing but it becomes very difficult to even ID the police. Upon closer examination, they appear to be two officers standing up against the police SUV instead of attempting to either assist the victim or control the crime scene.

One person shared:

“Don't you think it was the police work to clear the area and to try to help my friend instead of just standing right there looking at everybody over this man fighting?”

Concerns have also been raised about the length of time it took emergency medical services to reach the scene after 911 was called. Multiple sources have shared that it was closer to one hour and they believe Michael “Aaron” Bush could have survived the stabbing had he received medical attention sooner. One community member shared:

“There have been about three victims now who have bled to death because of delayed EMS access. It is my understanding that at least 45 minutes elapsed between him being stabbed and passing away due to blood loss. This is very sad and cannot continue to happen.”

It has been alleged that it took police 20 minutes to arrive and EMS another 25 minutes after that. Apparently, EMS is not permitted to be on the scene without police presence. When police arrived they rendered no assistance to the victim or attempted to control the scene in any way.

Further allegations have been made that at some point the victim ran upstairs and was bleeding all over the balcony and private security guards for one of the night clubs were observed using beer buckets to move blood and “tampering with a crime scene”. An eyewitness accused one bar manager of tampering with the scene in an attempt to not make it looks like it occurred close to their business. This person shared:

“sending security downstairs to wash off his steps, his side steps and even washing off the area where the young man was laying (as soon as the body was moved). Observing this was very puzzling to me.”

This washing allegedly occurred before investigators were to conduct any sort of crime scene investigation. The concerns have been so grave that some community members have already reached out to the police.

CMR has made contact with the 911 Communications Centre to obtain a full timeline of events for that morning.
