(CMR) Prime Minister of Eswatini Ambrose Dlamini died on Sunday (December 13) four weeks after he tested positive for the coronavirus.
The fifty-two-year-old is the first world leader to die after testing positive for COVID-19.
Dlamini on November 16 announced he had tested positive for the virus, but his condition at the time was described as nothing of concern as he was “asymptomatic and was feeling well”.
However later on December 1, Dlamini had been moved to a hospital in South Africa.
According to the BBC, no cause of death was mentioned, but Dlamini had recently been receiving treatment for Covid-19.
Dlamini was the prime minister of Eswatini, formerly known as Swaziland.
He held the post since October 2018.
Eswatini is bordered by Mozambique to its northeast and South Africa to its north, west, and south.
The country has a population of approximately one million and is one of the few absolute monarchies in the world.
