(CMR) Local law firm HSM has laid off five staff members between yesterday and today according to well-placed sources. Thus far it appears that all persons are Caymanians and comprise the administrative employees within the company. One employee has been with the company for over twenty years.
Four persons were let go yesterday and at least one additional person today.
HSM Group is a full-service law firm that focuses on commercial litigation, debt collections, property, insolvency, immigration, and employment law. They also offer corporate services and intellectual property services. The firm was established in 2012 by Huw Mosses.
Moses joined Appley law firm in 1993 and elected partner in 1997. He eventually moved on to Managing Partner of the Cayman office in 2003. He has sat on various government boards and was appointed Chairman of the CI Civil Service Appeals Commission. He received an OBE in 2005.
It is understood that some 15 people went with him initially from Appleby in order to form the new law firm.
HSM Chambers obtained the contract for debt collection for the Health Services Authority in 2018 in order to collect over $1 million in unpaid debt during the initial rollout of the program.
The firm has over fifty employees according to their LinkedIn page.
