(CMR) Grand Court Judge Tim Owen has granted leave to apply for judicial review to Shirley Roulstone, a member of Cayman Port Referendum (CPR Cayman). The National Trust had also filed a judicial review application. The result of two judicial review applications now moving forward means that the referendum will be delayed until sometime in 2020.
Roulstone was seeing a protective cost order before submitting her final application for judicial review.
The referendum will now be delayed until the case can be heard in full. A provisional hearing date has been set for January 20, 2020. The judge indicated the referendum should be delayed until after a hearing date.
Premier Alden McLaughlin had previously stated he anticipated such a delay but that December 19 would remain as a public holiday.
It remains to be seen how this will impact the postal ballots, almost 100 of which have been received so far.
