(CMR) Reports are reaching Cayman Marl Road that a 3-year-old child was rescued after being buried by his father at a location close to South Cayman Palms pass Beach Bay.
Whilst CMR was not yet prepared to name the man his picture and details are all over social media already. He has been identified as Travis Webb.
It's reported that he may have injured the child and he sustained some sort of serious injury to the back of the head. Eyewitnesses have informed us that the mother received an urgent phone call from a neighbor stating that she needed to come home immediately. The child was then allegedly discovered buried after being wrapped in blanket.
Rescue services attended to the scene and were able to resuscitate the young child; who was then transported to the hospital. The child is alive and undergoing additional medical tests and treatments including a CT scan.
Other sources indicate that the man is in police custody and is likely facing charges for attempted murder.
CMR understand that he was in court today and found to be mentally competent for his matters to proceed and it was referred back to Summary Court.
This is a developing story. Please check back on this post for further details.
UPDATE January 13: On Friday psychiatrists have now accepted that Travis Jarrell Webb of Bodden down has met the criteria to be considered legally insane. The question now is if a jury or judge finds him not guilty by reason of insanity where will he be housed? He is required to spend the time in a mental health facility but Cayman has no full-time facility yet.
