(CMR) On Friday, 28 September West Bay resident Rachel Ann Jefferson-Ebanks (60) was arrested on suspicion of theft and false accounting.

The allegations relate to theft of a large sum of money from the Cayman Islands Turtle Centre Ltd. (CTCEC) amounting to over KYD $82,000 and over USD $288,000.

It was reported back in early May that she was terminated from the CTEC after the Office of the Auditor General discovered some irregularities during the course of the 2016/17 audit.

The Company’s Managing Director Mr. Tim Adam explained:

“This situation of missing cash was revealed in our Finance Department during the course of our 2016/17 audit. We have promptly made initial reports to the Commercial Crime Branch of the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service, our Board of Directors, and our legal counsel.”

At the time they shared the information with the RCIPS Commercial Crime Branch.

Jefferson has been granted bail as the investigation is progressed by the Financial Crimes Unit.  CMR sources indicate that she worked in the finance department.
