(CMR) The Water Authority – Cayman has announced to staff today that water rates increased from July 1st – but no notice has been given to its customers or the media.
In the rate change notice, it stipulates that they are entitled to an automatic annual adjustment of the base rate for water, sewage and septage services. However, the board has deferred this increase since 2013. As of July 1. 2018 this has changed and an increase of 2.56% has been implemented. The rate increase will also impact Cayman Brac.
Septic fees only impact a small portion of the island including most of West Bay Road starting with KFC to Public Beach.
There was an updating of the website today along with this staff notice but website update is well hidden and not obvious on the home page. Further, there are no notices under the press area of the web page about this.
This increase comes on the heel of a utility increase by the Caribbean Utilities Company which was sent out to customers via email yesterday.
