(CMR) Councillor Austin Harris of Prospect has announced on the Straight Talk show this afternoon that the government will be announcing an amnesty for back fees on motor vehicles until the end of the year.
In an exclusive announcement on an evening appearance with Straight Talk host, Ruthanna Young, he indicated that the Traffic Law is undergoing significant amendments and should be implemented shortly. For the remainder of the year, after the governor signs off on the bill; anyone with vehicles will be given an amnesty on outstanding back fees. In the case of out of commission vehicles persons will be required to turn in their plates if they wish to re-register the vehicle and start afresh with no fees being owed.
Councillor Harris indicated that the hope was this temporary amnesty would assist persons who had fallen on financially tough times to be able to get their vehicles back on the road.
The PPM government also implemented a similar amnesty with business licensing fees during its last administration.
