(CMR) A major 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti on Saturday, the United States Geological Survey said, with some damage already reported. The earthquake hit around 7:30 a.m. at 12km NE of Saint-Louis du Sud, Haiti at 10km deep. The epicenter approx. 30 km NE of Les Cayes and 100 km west of the capital Port-au-Prince.
Early reports are that people ran into the streets and reports of buildings collapses have already been received.
Reports are that it was felt in the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Cuba as well as Turks and Caicos Islands.
No tsunami is expected to have been triggered by this quake, as it occurred below land.
