(CMR) The Cayman Islands remains under Hurricane Watch as Tropical Storm Ian continues to move through the Caribbean Sea.
At 10 am, the center of Tropical Storm Ian was located near latitude 14.4 °north and longitude 75.2° west, which places it about 520 miles southeast of Grand Cayman. The system is moving west towards the west at near 15 miles per hour, with maximum sustained winds near 45 miles per hour, with higher gusts. The closest point of approach places the center at 68 miles southwest of Grand Cayman at around 6 am.
If the storm remains on its current track, Grand Cayman can expect to start experiencing tropical storm force winds on Monday, September 26, around 1 am.
Overcast skies with widespread thunderstorms are expected from Sunday with tropical storm conditions late into the night as the system nears the Cayman Islands. Tropical Storm force winds with possible Hurricane-force gusts are expected for Grand Cayman by early Monday morning. Extremely rough seas accompanied by storm surges are also likely.
